Styrax L. Carlous Linnaeus established this genus in the Species Plantarum in 1753. The generic name refers to the aroma tree. The type species for this genus tree is Styrax officinalis L.
A genus of ca. 60 species widely distributed in the Mediterranean region, eastern Asia and North and Souther America. About four species in Taiwan.
