The genus Liparis L. C. Rich. approximately consists of two hundred and fifty species on the terrestrials and epiphytes distributed throughout the tropical and temperate areas of the world. It has twenty one species found in Taiwan (Su 2000). Among the species, eight species are epiphytic and thirteen species terrestrial. The species of this genus in the world were grouped into three sections by Seidenfaden (1976). This study attempted to find out more stable taxonomic characters useful to delineate taxa and to establish a natural taxonomic system for the genus.
