Syzygium buxifolium is a small tree or shurb with dense branches. They young branchlets are slightly 4-angled. Leaves are opposite, oblong to obovate. Flowers are in terminal few-flowered cymes. Petals are 4, free and small. Fruit is globose. It grows in thickets at low to medium altitudes throughout Taiwan.
